Software
We run both Mac and PC workstations,
and can print files from the listed programs from either
platform. Be sure to send your fonts as well as the
files and all linked .eps and .tif files. Convert your
text to outlines in Illustrator and Freehand, and especially
in any linked .eps files. When sending mac fonts, they
need to be stuffed or zipped. We accept CD's, DVD and
File Transfers (FTP).
Supported Programs
Quark XPress
Freehand
Illustrator
Photoshop
PageMaker
InDesign
Other programs such as Word,
Power Point and Excel may be supported depending on
the output required. Please contact us to discuss your
needs.
What kind of file should I send
you?
We prefer to have the native file you created. If you
created the art with Quark, send us the Quark file and
all the linked files with the fonts. If, for whatever
reason, we need to change something, this allows us
to do it. We can also accept editable eps files, PDF
files, tiff or jpg files providing the resolution meets
the final output requirements. When emailing your files,
we ask you to ZIP (PC) or Stuff (Mac) everything into
one file. If it's larger than 5 mb, please send to our
FTP site.
Fonts
We have the fonts that are supplied
with the listed programs. If you have a font you bought
elsewhere, send the font file along with your program
file. It is a big help if you convert your fonts to
outlines/curves in the programs like Illustrator, and
Freehand that will do this. Remember to include the
fonts for the linked images or to change the fonts to
outlines/curves when ever possible.
Photos & Resolution
Scans that have been professionally
created for brochures and advertisements will generally
work well in large format. Older digital camera pictures
are generally not dense enough to go to large sizes,
although professional digital pictures are OK. The newer
3 megapixel digital cameras give photos that can go
up to 18x24 pretty nicely. Older 480x640 pixel pictures
tend to look rough when taken above 8x10" size,
and we suggest you only use them for small pictures
on your poster.
We need images to be between
72 and 100 dpi in their final size to look good. This
means that a 24x36 photo needs an uncompressed tif image
of between 12 and 24 megabytes in size. A rule of thumb
is that 4 mb of tif per square foot of image will give
you 100 dpi. We find that more than 100 dpi is unnecessary,
since your eye cannot see a pixel that small from a
few feet back. We will call you if we think there's
a problem with your images.
Print Quality
We use state of the art Wide Format inkjet printers
including Hewlett Packard and Mimaki to produce the
highest quality prints with results that are stunning!
You'll have smooth blends, sharp text, accurate skin
tones, and vibrant spot colors. We calibrate our printers
and profile our media to ensure the maximum color gamut
possible for every material we print on.
Turn Around Time
We normally complete orders
in 2 to 3 business days. Large orders (more than a dozen
pieces), can take a few more days. If you are in a jam
and need a job shipped same day or over night, let us
know. We can usually ship files received by noon our
time. There is a 25% rush charge for same day/overnight
service.
Bleeds
When creating your file for output please allow a minimum
of .25" for any bleeds. Creating bleeds for you
after the file has been submitted can be time consuming
and costly.
Proofs
Don't I need to see a proof? If it makes you more comfortable,
we'll send you a small color proof, the charge is $15
plus the Fedex. We find that once you've seen our work,
proofs are not usually necessary. When we are doing
a large number of pieces, we'll do one for approval
before we do the rest, but it's usually not worth it
for single pieces. We stand behind our work, and will
happily reprint it if there is a problem.
